Born in Strasbourg in 1972 in a musicians’ family ; he grows up and spends his whole childhood immersed in music. He learns how to play the transverse-flute at the C.N.R. of Strasbourg, until he is awarded the Gold-medal. Having passed his A-levels, he intends to take up a teaching job in geography and therefore goes to University in Paris, where he studies for his Bachelor’s Degree. Yet, he can’t resist the call of a passion which had been hatching since his childhood : woodwork, stringed instrument making.

He then meets one of the most prestigious masters in stringed instrument making, Jean-Frederic Schmitt in Lyon, in whose workshop he gets a 3-year-training.

Having completed his apprenticeship Sylvain DEPLACE goes away with his family to Canada, where he goes on improving his know-how and  his technique thanks to Olivier Pérot.

He finally comes back to his hometown Strasbourg where he makes up his mind to set up his own workshop in 2004.

He now gives his support to enthusiastic amateur and professional musicians. His musical training endows him with a special sensitivity in the adjustment of instruments. The unequalled resonance of the instruments he manufactures has already been appreciated by artists all over the world.
